Built in 2010, R-House was the winning design for the competition From the Ground Up: Innovative Green Homes. The purpose of the competition was to gather affordable and sustainable designs that could be used for low-income communities in Westside neighborhood of Syracuse.
The winning team based their concept on the highly energy-efficient standards of passive house. They designed the home to have a southern facing rear wall for heating during the winter. Moreover, the angles of the house are designed to take full advantage of solar gain throughout the year.
