Westport House – Westport, Connecticut

Retrofitted in 2011, this certified passive home was sought out for its southern facing windows and concrete exterior. Due to concrete’s ability to stay airtight, the developer targeted this home for renovation. Using a cellular glass insulation product that is common for concrete, the developer was able to create the airtight insulation needed for a passive house. The Westport House consumes no gas or oil, and the owner anticipates being off the electrical grid within the next decade due to solar panels installed on the roof. The modernist design sets this home apart from others in the neighborhood, and is part of an energy-efficient home tour that the public can sign-up to see.
